What is Whtz, the Bibliophile?
Whtz, the Bibliophile is a {1}{W}{U} legendary Homunculus from Mystery Booster Commander Edition, the newest Mystery Booster product and the first one built for Commander Draft. Its rulebreaker ability simply states that a deck with this commander has no maximum deck size, breaking the format's oldest rule.
That one line turns Battle of Wits from a joke into a real win condition, and for the first time makes Yorion, Sky Nomad usable as a companion. Everything else on the card is modest: a 1/3 body and a tap ability that draws a card and gains a life, three mana cheaper once your starting deck holds 200 or more cards.

The Bibliophile Wiki Sections
Jump straight to the eight sections covering the beginner guide, deck staples, Commander legality, the Princess anime, card price, the official rulings, the Battle of Wits combo and the meaning behind the name.
The Bibliophile Beginner Guide
Start with the one line that changes everything: a deck with Whtz has no maximum deck size, while singleton, WU color identity and 40 starting life all still apply. The guide walks you from that rule to a deck size you can actually shuffle and a win condition you can actually resolve.
The Bibliophile Deck Staples
A 250-card list is mostly filler, so the few cards that convert size into card advantage decide whether the deck functions. These tiers rank the pieces by how hard the deck leans on them, and every build still budgets 60 to 70 lands out of roughly 150 nonland slots.
Battle of Wits and Yorion, Sky Nomad. The alternate win at 200 cards and the companion that only needs 120 in Commander; without both the extra deck size is pure downside.
Templar Knight. A {1}{W} vigilant Human Knight whose text says a deck can have any number of cards named Templar Knight, the only mass-copy card that fits a size-unlimited deck; tapping five attacking copies tutors a legendary artifact straight onto the battlefield.
Mulldrifter, Archaeomancer and Spirited Companion. Enter-the-battlefield draw and recursion that Yorion blinks for repeated value, the cheapest way to keep a huge pile moving.
Invincible Hymn and Aetherflux Reservoir. Invincible Hymn sets your life total to your library count, and Reservoir turns 50 life into 50 damage as the backup win line.
The Bibliophile Commander Legality
Every legality question about Whtz answered with the official dates, because the card is legal in some formats and not others and the Commander date is later than the release date. Format by format, including the playtest and acorn cards printed in the same set.
The Bibliophile Princess Anime
The name also belongs to Mushikaburi-hime, the 2022 Madhouse anime about a noblewoman who would rather read than attend court. Season, episode count, source novels and where to stream it, all from the official site and licensor.
The Bibliophile Card Price
What the card actually costs and why, tracked against the sealed product it only comes from. Whtz appears only in Mystery Booster Commander Edition boosters, so single supply tracks how much sealed gets opened rather than a normal print run.
The Bibliophile Rulings
The rule interactions people ask about most: whether the deck size rule touches the minimum, how the 200-card discount is counted, and when Battle of Wits actually checks your library. Each answer follows the official release notes.
The Bibliophile Battle of Wits Combo
The actual win sequence, step by step, including the mistake that loses the game: drawing below 200 cards with your own commander. Follow the order and the payoff resolves on schedule.
The Bibliophile Meaning
The word behind the card name, explained without the fluff: what a bibliophile is, how it differs from a bookworm, how to say it, and where the term comes from.
