Exploring the Bibliophile Princess: Anime Adaptations, Light Novels, and More

Introduction to Bibliophile Princess

One prominent title capturing global attention is Bibliophile Princess (known in Japanese as 虫かぶり姫 or Mushikaburi-hime, and released in English as Princess of the Bibliophile).

This romantic drama follows Lady Eliana Bernstein, an aristocratic bookworm whose love for reading outweighs her interest in high-society customs. When Crown Prince Christopher offers her an engagement of convenience that grants her unfettered access to the royal library in exchange for playing the role of his fiancée, Eliana readily accepts. However, as their arrangement unfolds, genuine feelings emerge.

Below is an overview of the key production milestones and publication details for this beloved franchise.

The Light Novel and Manga Origins

The narrative originated as a web novel written by Yui, serialized on the user-generated novel publishing platform Shōsetsuka ni Narou between 2015 and 2022. Following its widespread web popularity, Ichijinsha acquired the series, publishing it under their Iris NEO imprint. The complete light novel series spans 7 volumes and concluded in October 2022.

Parallel to the light novel's success, a manga adaptation illustrated by Yui Kikuta began serialization in August 2018 within the pages of Monthly Comic Zero Sum. English-speaking fans gained official access when J-Novel Club licensed both the light novels and manga for digital publication, establishing a 15+ reading recommendation.

The 2022 Anime Adaptation by Studio Madhouse

In 2022, the franchise expanded into animation with a 12-episode television series produced by Studio Madhouse. Directed by Tarou Iwasaki, known for his work on sweetness & lightning, the anime adaptation brought Eliana and Christopher's intricate courtly romance to life with fluid character designs by Mizuka Takahashi and series composition by Mitsutaka Hirota.

The anime premiered on October 6, 2022, running for 12 episodes with each episode lasting approximately 24 minutes. International streaming rights for regions outside Japan were secured by Sentai Filmworks, making the series available for simulcast and viewing on platforms like HIDIVE and Apple TV.

Main Characters and Voice Cast

The emotional core of Bibliophile Princess relies on the distinct personalities of its main cast. Lady Eliana Bernstein, often called the "Library Ghost" due to her obsession with literature, possesses golden long wavy hair and striking light blue eyes. Crown Prince Christopher Selkirk Ashelard uses their engagement as a clever political maneuver that simultaneously satisfies her craving for ancient manuscripts.
